Midori: the Japanese brand that makes pulp worth looking at
There is nothing unusual about moulded pulp. It is one of the most ordinary materials in the world, the stuff of egg boxes and coffee cup trays. Midori decided that was no reason it couldn't be beautiful.
Based in Tokyo, Midori has been making stationery and desk objects since 1950. They're best known for the Traveler's Notebook, the endlessly customisable leather journal that earned a quiet cult following worldwide. But the brand's philosophy shows up in everything they make: that an object for your desk should feel considered, should age well, and should earn the space it takes up.
Their pulp pieces - a card box, a pen case - are made from textured moulded pulp in a warm grey tone. Featherlight, surprisingly sturdy, entirely unobtrusive. They don't demand attention. They just make your desk a slightly calmer place to sit.
That is very Midori: nothing unnecessary, nothing missing.
